Imperio de la moda: Fashion, consumption, and representation in colonial Spanish America is a research project led by Laura Beltrán-Rubio as part of her doctoral investigation. The project aims to develop a material-based approach to the study of early modern fashion and consumption in Spanish America. Imperio de la moda sheds light on the development of tastes and the adoption, dissemination, and adaptation of fashions throughout the region in the eighteenth century, by drawing on documentary, visual, and material evidence. In doing so, Imperio de la moda advances the understanding of fashion as an important phenomenon of global reach during the early modern period.
